John
Carlson is a familiar face in the local soccer community. In 1997 he guided Roncalli High School to its only state championship appearance in girl’s soccer.
Carlson took over the reigns of the Skutt High School girls soccer program in
2000 and has guided them to six consecutive Nebraska state soccer tournament
appearances. He has over 110 wins in his 11 years as a high school head coach. In 1999,
Carlson guided Nebraska Wesleyan to a 19-0 season and was named the Nebraska
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In 2000, Carlson led
Nebraska Wesleyan to its first NCAA postseason tournament appearance. His career
record at Wesleyan of 34-4-4 is the highest winning percentage in Nebraska
Wesleyan soccer history. In 2001,
Carlson took over the College of Saint Mary Flames soccer program. He guided the
Flames to three consecutive postseason appearances and his 2001 team made it to
the NAIA Elite Eight. He was named the Region Four and Midland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Coach of the Year that year for his efforts. His record at
CSM was 45-13-7. Carlson’s overall college career record of 79-17-11 ranks him
in the NAIA Top 20 for both win totals and winning percentage. Carlson has
coached 20 players who received All-Nebraska soccer recognition and 11 players
who received NAIA All American recognition.
